Foundation values and Collective Worship

Our Foundation Values are central to the mission of the school and underpin our Collective worhsip. Each half term we breakdown these values into weekly thoughts and prayers drawing inspriation from the relevent bible reading.

Our school church services follow the liturgical calendar and our school values.

British Values

 At Holy Trinity CE Primary School we uphold and teach pupils about the British Values which are defined as:

  • democracy 
  • rule of law 
  • individual liberty 
  • mutual respect 
  • tolerance of those of different faiths and beliefs

The school uses daily opportunities to actively promote the British Values through our daily Collective Worship and whole school systems and structures; such as electing and running a successful Junior Leadership Team. These values are also taught explicitly through Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economical Education(PSHCE), and Religious Education (RE).  We also teach the British Values through the planning and delivering of a broad and balanced curriculum which we ensure includes real opportunities for exploring these values. Children are set interesting homework projects which requires them to research and replicate famous British landmarks and present findings about famous Britons in History. We display the best projects in the corridor for everyone to appreciate.

 At Holy Trinity C of E Primary School, these values are reinforced regularly and in the following ways:


  • Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our Junior Leadership Team where members are elected annually. 
  • Pupils fill in termly questionnaires where they can voice their opinions and views
  • We have Year 6 monitors who are responsible for different aspects of school life such as Collective Worship monitors, Playground Leaders and House Captains.

The Rule of Law:

  • The importance of laws and rules both in and out of school are  reinforced daily.
  • We have an agreed set of Golden Expectations and these are linked in with Our ‘Rainbow Chart’ behaviour system.  
  • Children are asked to reflect on the importance of these Golden Expectations especially when they are not followed.
  • We teach the value and reasons behind both laws and rules - that they protect us, the responsibilities that this involves and the consequences that can occur.
  • Frequent visits from the Community Police, Fire Service and Mayor of Haringey help to reinforce this message.

Individual Liberty : 

  • We actively encourage pupils to make choices, which they do knowing that they are in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Pupils are encouraged to know, understand and exercise their rights and personal freedoms and are advised how to exercise these safely, for example through our Online Safety teaching and PSHCE lessons.
  • Pupils are given the freedom to make choices, e.g. signing up for extra-curricular clubs.
  • Pupils help in planning and delivering child led Collective Worship.
  • Each half term, children evaluate Collective worship in light of the Christian Value being taught. This informs staff of their level of understanding and how to plan and deliver Collective Worship in the future .

Mutual Respect:

  • Our school ethos and behaviour policy are based around core Christian values such as ‘respect’ and ‘responsibility’ and these values determine how we learn as a community.
  • Collective Worship is based on a different ‘Christian Value’ each half-term, which are planned collaboratively with the local minister and are central to how we expect everyone to go about their life at our school.
  • Children and adults alike, including visitors, are challenged if they are disrespectful in any way.
  • Values are highly visible around the school.

Tolerance of Those of Different Faiths and Beliefs:

  • We enhance pupils’ understanding of their place in a culturally diverse society through our International Primary Curriculum.
  • In London, we are lucky to be surrounded by a diverse  population which we respect and celebrate.
  • We hold an annual International Celebration where different classes celebrate the culture of a different country from across the world. Parents and Families bring in traditional food and dress up in National dress.
  • We celebrate all major festivals in the Christian Calendar as well as festivals and events from around the World.
  • Children learn about the different major faiths, beliefs and festivals in RE and also visit different places of worship.
  • We celebrate Black History Month and Friendship Week
  • Collective Worship promotes tolerance of all people regardless of their background and belief.   
  • We research different famous Britons each week for homework.

Class Assemblies

Once a term, children will perform in a class assembly. This usually takes place on Fridays at 9am and parents are invited to attend. Children work with their class teacher to present a story, song, dance and prayer linked to their current International Primary Curriculum theme. Please see the school calendar to find out when your child's next class assembly will take place.

Reward Assemblies

Every Friday we have a 'Celebration' Assembly. Prior to the assembly, teachers select two children per class who have worked extremely hard and/or have achieved greatness throughout the week. During the assembly, these pupils are given a gold sticker; the reason they have been selected for a 'special mention' is shared with the school. Children also share examples of outstanding work with the rest of the school.

Our behaviour policy states, that when children achieve a Gold standard of excellent behaviour at the end of the day, they are issued with a raffle ticket. All raffle tickets are placed in a Golden Box and four tickets are picked at random during assembly. The children who have a winning ticket are able to choose a prize.

During class time, the children earn 'House Points throughout the school day. These are collated by the House Captains every Friday and the team that have the most team points, win a prestidious cup for the week. A running total of team points is on display in the hall.

Children are also awarded individual certificates for earning House Points which are presented during Celebration Assembly.
